Chicago, IL, United States (AHN) - A flight attendant with a commercial pilot license helped the captain of a Chicago-bound American Airlines plane land safely at the O'Hare International Airport on Monday after the co-pilot fell ill.

Flight 1612 coming from San Francisco landed without incident in Chicago at about 4:24 p.m. Monday, according to American Airlines spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan. The Boeing 767 plane was carrying 225 passengers and seven crew members.

The captain moved the sick co-pilot to the passenger cabin and asked if there was any off-duty airline pilot aboard. The flight attendant then introduced herself and she was brought into the cockpit, according to Fagan.

At the cockpit, the flight attendant read off check list of procedures and did other tasks, Fagan said.
