Gov. Abbott’s executive order on mandatory face coverings begins

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott’s two new executive orders about face coverings in public and gatherings of 10 people or more have begun.
The new orders took affect at noon on Friday.
The first order requires all Texans to wear a face covering over the nose and mouth in public spaces in counties with 20 or more positive COVID-19.
The City of San Antonio notified residents of the governor’s orders by using the Wireless Emergency Alert System (WEA), which sent an alert to their smart phone.
“With our local hospitals nearing capacity, it is critical that everybody gets this message, especially younger people, who we know are often glued to their cell phones,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “The message is simple: Stay home if you can. Wear a mask if you can’t – it’s an order from the Governor. We simply can’t withstand another spike in COVID-19 cases as we saw after Memorial Day weekend.”
